Vitamin B5 for dogs: the coenzyme A vitamin
Pantothenic acid's name comes from the Greek for "everywhere," a fitting description for a vitamin needed to build coenzyme A, a molecule central to energy metabolism across nearly every cell, which is why it sits in Essential's B-complex group.
Why coenzyme A matters
Vitamin B5 is essential for producing coenzyme A, supporting the body's ability to generate and use energy efficiently. It has an established requirement in canine nutrition set out in the National Research Council's Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats, and most balanced diets provide adequate amounts.
Even so, Essential includes a measured baseline amount per serving as part of the daily B-complex rather than assuming diet alone covers every dog's needs, keeping B5 alongside the other B vitamins it works with in overlapping metabolic pathways.
