Glucosamine for dogs: the building block behind a joint-support duo

Cartilage constantly rebuilds itself, and glucosamine supplies a key raw material for that process. It's why Move pairs glucosamine with chondroitin, rather than leaning on one compound to do both jobs.

What glucosamine supplies to cartilage

Glucosamine is a naturally occurring amino sugar, and the body uses it to build glycosaminoglycans, the long-chain molecules that form the structural scaffolding of cartilage and joint fluid. Without enough raw material, that scaffolding has less to rebuild itself from.

That matters most where cartilage takes ongoing wear: hips, elbows, and other joints that flex and bear weight through everyday movement. Supplying glucosamine is a nutritional way of supporting that rebuilding process rather than treating a joint problem after it develops.

Why glucosamine is evaluated together with chondroitin, not alone

A randomised, double-blind, positive-controlled trial in dogs with osteoarthritis tested glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate as a pair, and a separate placebo-controlled trial found benefits for the same combination. Canine research consistently studies them together rather than in isolation.

The reason is that they cover different ground: glucosamine supplies the building blocks cartilage uses to rebuild, while chondroitin handles the water-retention and cushioning side. Move follows the combination the evidence actually supports.
