Foeniculum vulgare
Fennel seeds for Dogs
Fennel seeds are safe for dogs in small amounts, and they're traditionally used to ease gas and bloating

Fennel seeds for dogs: a traditional digestive-comfort seed, in a modest amount
Also known as saunf, these aromatic seeds have a long history of easing gas and bloating, which is why Prebiotic includes a small, calibrated amount alongside the rest of its fibre blend.
What makes fennel traditionally useful for digestion
The seeds carry natural compounds, chiefly anethole and fenchone, that traditional use and pharmacology reviews associate with easing gas, bloating and mild digestive tension. That's a different mechanism from a fibre source: it's about calming the digestive tract rather than bulking stool.
Fennel also contributes phenolic compounds with antioxidant activity, which is a secondary benefit alongside its role in Prebiotic's digestive-comfort blend.
Why the amount is kept modest
Fennel is safe for dogs, but only within the small amounts used in a daily supplement; a European regulatory review of fennel fruit reaches the same conclusion at food-grade amounts. Broono calibrates the amount in Prebiotic to sit comfortably within that safe range rather than maximising for potency.
As with introducing any new ingredient, add it gradually and speak to your vet first if your dog has a sensitive stomach or takes medication.
