Twelve to fourteen hours of sleep a day is normal for an adult dog, and it isn't a sign of laziness or a problem worth worrying about. Most of that time isn't idle. It's when a dog's body does the maintenance work that movement and food set up during the hours it's awake.

What's actually happening

Dogs also sleep differently to how most owners picture it.
